
Jazmine Laura Sullivan was born in and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam her mother has been a backup singer in the past at Philadelphia International Records. As a child the father of her was appointed to be one of the cities' Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Their family eventually moved into this historic building. In 2005 she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as a vocal music major. Sullivan began her singing career as a contralto in the kids' choir, and then a few years later in the adult choir. Sullivan experienced only a small amount of secular music. She recalls that she was in her 11th year when someone was requesting her to sing for solos at the church. But, she wasn't quite ready to go. "Then McDonald's offered a competition for children in major cities. The competition gave me the opportunity to perform Accept the Grace of God on Showtime Apollo. My fans were very supportive." She sang with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday party at 13. Sullivan was initially signed to Jive Records at the age 15. When she was 15 she signed with Jive Records. She recorded the entire album and then it wasn't made available for release. Sullivan was then removed by the labels. Missy Elliott was the producer for a few songs on their debut album. One of them was "Backstabbers", a buzz song produced by Timbaland, was written by Elliott.
